| IATSE Local 480 Brings Expertise One of the benefits of working crew on the Duke City Shootout is the chance to learn from veteran film technicians from the IATSE Local 480. IATSE supplies at least one mentor per crew each year to help guide the crews.
IATSE members also teach most of the Bootcamp classes held prior to the festival. Over the years, IATSE business manager Jon Hendry estimates that more than 150 Duke City crew have obtained membership in the Local 480, which statewide has grown to over 1,200 from about 220 members when the Shootout launched in 2000. "We see this as graduation. We put a lot of emphasis of having that (Shootout experience) on your resume. We feel this is a professional program. We highly value it," Hendry noted. "A lot of people came through that are now keys on some pretty big pictures. They're now actually making movies and employing people," he added. For more information on the union, visit Local 480. |
